DIY King size bed for half the price

With my wife, we wanted to upgrade our bed so we looked around at furniture shops to see what we can find. We were looking particularly at King sized beds (180cm x 200cm) and although there were some nice looking ones to choose from, their price was close to astronomical.

Since I'm handy with my hands, and I know how much the materials cost, I knew that I can make such a bed for at least half of the store price. So that is what I did.

The bed base is made out of 3x3cm square tubing, from which I made smaller and bigger sections that are then connected with M6 bolts.

This way the bed can be disassembled and easily transported if needed.

You can download the original SketchUp model that I made from here, and if you want step by step instructions on how to build your own, then check out the Instructable for the project.
